NEMMA's Travis "Full Contact Writer" Lizotte and Jeff "Combat Cowboy" Clark, are in the building and cageside to report the action LIVE! Dalton Rice (0-0, Recon) vs Zach Danesh (1-1 Defensive Edge MMA)

Amateur Middleweight

Dalton Rice gets a huge ovation from the NEF crowd!


Round 1: Zach somes out with leg kicks as Dalton looks to establish distance he connects and sends Danesh to the canvas where he follows up with strikes before returning to distance. Dalton is picking Zach apart on the feet but Danesh is game to stand with the lengthy Rice. Dalton backs Zach to the cage and lands a right hand that shuts the lights out on Danesh and this Amateur Middleweight bout.

Man what an impressive debut for Rice who looked every bit the part of Amateur Middleweight contender in his NEF/MMA debut!



Joe Peters (1-3, Karasu Tengu Academy ) vs Kyler Hoobler (2-0 Lee Brothers MMA)

Amateur Catchweight (190 lbs.)


Round 1: Hoobler comes out behind strikes and backs Joe to the fence where Joe clinches and looks to control. Peters lands some body shots from the clinch before looking to take Kyler down against the fence. They exchange knees against the fence but Hoobler remains standing but pressed against the fence. Peters changes levels finally and lands a single leg, Kyler stands just to be taken back to the canvas as the round expires. 10-9 Peters.


Round 2: Joe comes out the aggressor in the seconds round coming forward with a combination to close distance and put Hoobler back on the fence. Hoobler grabs a guillotine that sends the action to the canvas where Hoobler looks to isolate and arm. Peters uses the submission attempt to gain half guard where he continues to control this round. Joe steps over to mount and Kyler gives his back and Joe begins to punish Hoobler with ground and pound. Hoobler spits his mouthpiece as the round comes to an end. 10-8 Peters.


Round 3: Cageside officials take a close look at Hoobler between rounds. Hoobler comes out and ducks under Peters and looks for a takedown of his own. Peters reverses with a takedown where he once again looks to work ground and pound. Joe mounts Hoobler gives his back and its one way traffic out of the Peters corner as Kyler covers up. Referee Dale Hart steps in for the stoppage.

Ian Godin (0-0, CMBJJ) vs Jacob Sonia (0-0 First Class MMA)

Amateur Welterweight


Round 1: They exchange strikes on the bell and Jacob looks to clinch and he is clearly holding the advantage here in the wrestling department as he has no problem getting Ian to the ground. Jacob looks for the RNC but Ian sweeps to the back on Sonia now and they reverse yet again before scrambling with Sonia ending up on Godin's back. Sonia finishes the round in full mount landing ground and pound. Back and forth first round. 10-9 Sonia.


Round 2: Godin comes out with a headkick that lands flush and drops Sonia. Sonia's right eye is a mess, he survives to get back to the feet and the ref calls a stop and the ringside physician advises the stoppage. Good call Sonia was in a bad way.


NEMMA Results: Ian Godin defeats Jacob Sonia by TKO (Doctor Stoppage Following headkick) at :22 seconds of the second round.


Danny Buteau (0-0, Recon ) vs Issac Therrien (1-1 Faith MMA)

Amateur Lightweight


Round 1: They both come out throwing wild as Danny establishes the clinch on the cage. Issac looks for a guillotine but Danny uses it to get top position as he looks for room to deploy ground and pound. Issac is looking to wrestle but Danny is doing a nice job in the ride position. Issac gives his back and Buteau sinks in the Rear Naked Choke for the quick tap.


NEMMA Results: Danny Buteau defeats Issac Therrien by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 2:15 of the first round.


Josh Drake (0-0, Karasu Tengu Academy ) vs Luis Sandoval (0-0 Sandoval Combat Sports)

Amateur Catchweight (130 lbs.)


Round 1: Leg kicks and a straight 1, 2 combo by Drake , Sandoval fires back hooks wildlay and they grapple against the cage. Some strong boxing but Drake keeps Sandoval at bay. Sandoval fires a body kick and shoots. Drake sprawls and lands some head shots while Sandoval chases the single leg. Action comes to pause with a groin shot to Sandoval. They reset and the round comes to an end. 10-9 Drake.


Round 2: Josh comes out establishing distance with sharp kicks and Luis returns with kicks of his own. Sandoval is getting his monies worth swinging for the fences as Josh looks calm and ready to weather the storm. Josh backs Luis to the cage with heavy strikes and knees but Luis is tough and continues to fire back in return. Josh steps back and lands a headkick that leaves Sandoval sprawled out on the canvas. Mike Jolicouer in the KTA corner called for the headkick and Drake answered in a huge way.


Round 3:

Alex Morris (1-0, Nostos MMA ) vs Qasim Abdulla (1-0 Choi Institute)

Amateur Flyweight


Round 1: Morris comes out behind a jab and Qasim takes him down where he has Morris against the fence. Alex looks to reverse but Abdullah is heavy from the top. Alex stands against the cage and looks for room to work as referee Dale Hart stops the fight briefly for an illegal strike from Morris who has a point taken away. Alex lands some clean striking on the restart but Abdullah once again takes him own where he continues to remain grappling heavy through the end of the round. 10-8 Abdullah.


Round 2: Morris comes out with a sharp kick to the body as Abdullah initiates the clinch. Alex lands a trip and winds up in mount. Qasim scrambles and ends up on top in Morris' guard. Qasim grabs a bulldog choke and Alex looks to regain his feet but is suplexed back to the canvas and Abdullah ends the round on top. 10-9 Abdullah.


Round 3: Alex comes out looking to strike and clips Abdullah and sends him to the ground where they grapple into Morris' guard. Alex scrambles and takes Abdullah to the mat where Morris mounts and Abdullah looks to reverse. They scramble on the cage and Qasim ends up on top once again, this is a grueling grappling war here as Alex comes down the stretch in top position. 10-9 Morris


NEMMA Results: Qasim Abdullah defeats Alex Morris by Unanimous Decision (29-27, 30-26, 30-26)


Connor Morrill (0-3, Karasu Tengu Academy ) vs William Lagasse (0-0 Team Alena)

Amateur Catchweight (140 lbs.)


Round 1: They come out exchanging kicks and Lagasse finds his range with a vicious right headkick that has Morrill out before he hits the canvas.


NEMMA Results: William Lagasse defeats Corror Morrill by Knockout (Headkick) at 20 seconds of the first round.


John Gardner (0-3, Recon ) vs Dan Esposito (0-0 Ascension Athletics)

Amateur Lightweight


Round 1: Gardner comes out throwing strikes and Dan stays away from Gardner and looks to counter. Gardner comes forward forcing his striking and Dan clinches against the fence looking for a takedown. Gardner defends well but eats a knee to the body for his troubles. Esposito uses the seatbelt to take Gardner down in his Acsension Athletics corner where he postures up lands ground and pound that causes John to give his back. Gardner reverses position and ends the round on top. 10-8 Esposito. Gardner is deducted a point between rounds for grabbing the cage.


Round 2: Gardner comes out striking again in round 2 before Esposito changes levels for a power double and once again has top position in his corner. Esposito postures up and lands some fists as Gardner defends well from here. Esposito returns to his feet where these guys exchange combinations at striking distance. Esposito ends the round getting the better of the stand up. 10-9 Esposito.


Round 3: Gardner is bleeding from the nose as round 3 begins with an exchange of jabs. Esposito changes levels and takes Gardner back to the canvas where he once again works from top position. Esposito works from side control and Gardner works back to half guard but cannot get out from under the heavy pressure of Esposito. Esposito ends the fight on top landing heavy ground strikes to the bell/ 10-8 Esposito.

Tyler Parent (1-2, CMBJJ) vs Quinn Poirier (0-2 First Class MMA)

Amateur Flyweight


Round 1: Parent comes out and connects with a right hook that drops Poirier and Tyler follows up but Poirier recovers and clinches against the fence before returning to striking distance. They scramble to the mat where Parent comes up short on his first RNC attempt but after a scramble the choke is deep and Poirier taps.


NEMMA Results: Tyler Parent defeats Quinn Poirier by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 1:23 of first round.

Jesse Erickson faces Mo Al Kinani at NEF 53 July 8th.


Jack Burke (1-2, Karasu Tengu Academy) vs Robert Gray (1-0 Team Krane)

Amateur Catchweight (190 lbs.)


Round 1: Burke lands first and backs up Gray, Gray fires back and is countered with a Right hand that splits Gray wide open. Burke goes to the ground and finishes Gray with heavy hammerfists.


NEMMA Results: Jack Burke defeats Robert Gray by TKO (Counter Right to Ground and Pound) at 31 seconds of the first round. Gray is all smiles as he leaves the cage but his right eye is a mess.


Jonathan Hersey (0-0, Nostos MMA) vs Shawn Grady (0-0 Ascension Athletics)

Amateur Lightweight


Round 1: Grady comes out behind strikes and Hersey closes the distance and takes him down, Hersey threatens the choke as he moves to back mount and lands heavy ground and pound that gets the stoppage.


NEMMA Results: John Hersey defeats Shawn Grady by TKO (Ground and Pound) at 34 seconds of the first round.


Jon RIvera (0-0, Karasu Tengu Academy ) vs Harry Dwyer (0-0 First Class MMA)

Amateur Welterweight


Round 1: Rivera comes out throwing to close distance and clinch Harry against the fence, Harry quickly reverses but Jon gabs a leg and slams Dwyer to the mat in his KTA Corner. Rivera stacks Dwyer in the corner being very heavy from the top. Dwyer keeps Rivera close but Rivera starts to work the body as Dwyer looks to throw up high guard from the bottom. Dwyer returns to his feet and Rivera apparently grabs the fence and they split. The restart comes with 10 seconds left and the round ends with Rivera clinching Dwyer on the fence. 10-9 Rivera.


Round 2: Round 2 starts with a shot from Rivera that puts Harry's back on the canvas again. Rivera works to full mount as he looks for the ground and pound. Dwyer turtles and Rivera switches from choke attempt to ground and pound. Harry escapes to his feet but is met with another take down from Rivera. Rivera finishes this second round on top in control. 10-9 Rivera.


Referee Dale Hart checks with Harry Dwyer between rounds, who cannot continue.


NEMMA Results: Jon Rivera defeats Harry Dwyer by TKO (Retirement) at the beginning of the third round.


NEF announces Everett Roy vs. Bret Casey for July 8th from Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine


Zach Faulkner (5-3, Recon ) vs Arthur Minev (2-0 Defensive Edge MMA)

Amateur Lightweight

Championship


Round 1: Artur starts the action with some combinations that glance the guard of Faulkner. Artur lands a stinging lowkick before throwing Zach to the canvas. Artur ends up on top in the guard of Faulkner looking for space to work. Zach throws up high guard and looks for an armbar on the right arm of Artur. Faulkner scranbles and Artur pulls guard on a guillotine that causes Faulkner to tap.


NEMMA Results: Artur Minev defeats Zach Faulkner by Submission (Guillotine) at 2:14 of the first round. Minev is a talented kid and someone to watch out for in the New England MMA Lightweight division moving forward as he announces his intentions to go pro.


NEF announces Pro FLyweights Tyler Smythe and Paul Walther will lock horns at NEF 53 July 8th in Portland, Maine.


Caleb Austin (5-1, CMBJJ ) vs Nate Russell (8-3 Fighting Arts Academy)

Amateur Flyweight

Championship


Round 1: These fighters are tentative out of the gate, circling the cage before a shot by Austin, Nate stuffs but ends up with his back on the cage. Austin initiates the trip to get Nate to the mat where he looks to take Russell's back. Caleb earns the back as Russell tries to build his base. Russell scrambles as the round ends. 10-9 Austin.


Round 2: Russell comes out showing the jab in the second round as Austin changes levels looking for a takedown but Russell ends up pinning Austin on the cage and landing some short punches. Caleb scrambles and Russell controls Austin with a half nelson remaining on top. Russell finishes this round on top but in the triangle of Austin. 10-9 Russell.


Round 3: They trade shots to begin the third before Austin shoots for the single leg against the cage. Russell stuffs and lands some short shots before Caleb covers and Russell takes the back. Russell lands some shots that have John English taking a closer look. Caleb defends from his back as Russell finishes the round on top. 10-9 Russell.


Round 4: Round 4 starts slow as Austin looks to close the distance, Russell lands some left hooks before Austin shoots. After a scramble that has Austin on the back of Russell, Nate scrambles to the top where he goes belly down on an Americana that gets Austin to tap.


NEMMA Results: Nate Russell defeats Caleb Austin by Submission (Americana) at 1:26 of the fourth round.


Gerald Meuse (3-0, Sityodtong/BTT Boston) vs Anthony Vasta (2-3 Defensive Edge MMA)

Lightweight


Round 1: Vasta comes out looking to strike at distance, Gerry closes that distance and gets the takedown where he works from the top. Gerry steps over to full mount as Vasta looks to roll out the back door. Vasta grabs for a leg on the way out and Gerry remains on top. Vasta throws up high guard as Gerry moves to side control and works the crucifix. Gerry moves to the back of Vasta as Gerry moves to North/South before returning to side control. Gerry takes the back and lands strikes as the first round ends. 10-9 Meuse.


Round 2: Vasta fires a teep to start round 2 before Meuse changes levels and takes Vasta down. Gerry works some ground and pound as Vasta scrambles to build a base. The more Vasta scrambles the more short shots Meuse lands. Gerry transitions to the back where he looks for the Twister submission, Vasta defends for a moment but the torque is there and Vasta taps.


NEMMA Results: Gerry Meuse defeats Anthony Vasta by Submission (Twister) at 2:45 of the second round. Meuse's second finish of the rare Twister submission as a professional, super impressive.


Meuse takes the mic after the decision is announced and dedicates this fight to his mother, who he announces passed away just three weeks ago. "I wasn't going to let that be an excuse to pull out of this fight." said Meuse as he wished his mother and all the mothers out there a Happy Mothers Day tomorrow.


Nathaniel Grimard (3-2, Nostos MMA) vs Robert Wusstig (7-12 Andrello FIght Team)

Featherweight


Round 1: These main event featherweights trade jabs to open before Grimard shoots for a double leg and has Wusstig on his back early here. Grimard lands some nice short elbows from the guard of Wusstig as he looks to score from the top. Nate lands some nice ground shots as Wusstig looks to scramble but Nate maintains top control. Nate picks his shots as Wusstig explodes out and finishes the round back on his feet. 10-9 Grimard.


Round 2: Wusstig fires a jab to open the second and Nate ducks under and takes him right back down. Grimard once again goes to work from top position landing some ground and pound while keeping his hips heavy. Grimard lands some elbows now as he looks completely in control here. Nate finishes the second round on top landing short shots to the grounded Wusstig. 10-9 Grimard.


Round 3: Grimard begins round three with another takedown and he goes back to top control, a position Grimard has enjoyed all fight. Wusstig stands against the cage briefly before Grimard picks the ancles and pulls him back to the canvas. Wusstig gives his back to try and stand and Grimard takes it. Nate lands short shots from the back as Wusstig looks for some semblance of room to mount an attack. That space never comes as Grimard remains on the back as the final seconds tick away. 10-9 Grimard


NEMMA Results: Nathaniel Grimard defeats Robert Wusstig by Unanimous Decision (30-27 x 3).
