They may have been traveling from the freezing temperatures of New England, but Nostos MMA brought the heat to Tampa Bay on Saturday night. World Class Fight League (WCFL) is an amateur-focused MMA promotion based out of Florida, and they hosted 3 fighters from Devin Powell's Nostos MMA last night, and the results couldn't have been any better, as all 3 fighters ended up capturing victory on enemy territory.
Nate Grimard improved his amateur MMA record to 2-0 as he beat Danny Lyons via unanimous decision. Grimard talked with our Steve Domenico last week about his upcoming bout, and he obviously executed as promised last night.
Also on the card for Nostos was two debuting amateur fighters who both walked away with victories. Kyle Hill defeated Charles Keenan by split decision, and Kyle Pufahl took down Austin Bailey via a 5 second KO, which tied him for the fastest victory in WCFL history! Pufahl landed a hellish right hand that sent Bailey to the canvas. After the ref waived off the fight due to the strike, Bailey proceeded to wrestle with the ref and doctor for close to a minute - having no idea where he was or what had happened.
It's a big risk to travel out of the region on your own dime to take on local fighters that the local matchmaker has lined up, but this trek proved to be highly successful for the Nostos MMA crew. Keep an eye out for the guys to be competing on the New England regional scene as soon as our local governments get their collective heads out of their asses.
On a much bigger stage, Charles "Boston Strong" Rosa dropped a unanimous decision victory to Darrick Minner on the UFC Vegas 19 card. New England's Rosa dropped to 1-2 in his last 3 UFC fights, and needs to find a way to get back on the winning track, and avoid a decision. In those last 3 fights Rosa has lost both by unanimous decision, and squeaked out a split decision victory in the lone victory. He'll get another shot with the organization, but if he doesn't win via stoppage in his next contest, it could mark the end of Rosa's UFC run.
