Nostos MMA goes 5-1 in Florida at WCFL 29

It was another stellar night for Devin Powell and the Nostos MMA crew down in Tampa, Florida at World Class Fight League 29. Powell, the owner and head trainer at Nostos MMA in Somersworth, New Hampshire brought 6 of his amateur fighters down to the sunshine state to compete, with 3 of them making their debuts. It was a rousing success, as the boys from New England racked up a 5-1 record on the night.

Powell seems to have a knack for this full-time coaching thing. His fighters now have an 8-1 record since Powell retired from competition and focused 100% of his efforts on his gym and training his fighters. If you've been around the New England MMA game for any length of time, then you know that Powell is one of the nicest guys you will meet; not to mention he's also a hell of a fighter himself, fighting for the UFC and Bellator for the majority of his career after cutting his teeth on the New England regional scene.

The boys from New England went into hostile territory and made a serious statement to the Florida amateur MMA scene. Powell had 3 of his fighters making their amateur debuts, which is incredibly difficult thing to do when you are 1,200 miles away from home. The debuting fighters went 2-1, with the lone loss (Nick Miles) coming by way of referee stoppage due to a dislocated knee. The most impressive performance of the night was produced by one of Powell's most talented pupils - Nathaniel Grimard. The Exeter, New Hampshire native pushed his amateur record to 3-0 with an impressive 1st round submission just 1:25 into the fight. The kid is on a roll, racking up 2 wins under the WCFL banner over the course of the last 3.5 months.
